The interface is largely intuitive. User interactions occur in a framework and logical structure similar to other movie makers, but with fewer little snags. The documentation was very good; information I needed was easy to find and accurate.

In my use to date, I haven’t encountered any program crashes. The features I need perform with pleasant ease and speed. The rendering speed far exceeds that of any of the other packages I tried. Deleting all the marks and reinserting them fixed the problem.
Addendum after a month of use: Video editing is pleasantly fast and straightforward. The editor has continued to perform reliably. The DVD’s produced are of good quality. It is easy to produce DVD’s with 90 minutes of video. Adjusting the options and settings to fit 2 hours onto a DVD is still somewhat obscure to me, though my need has not driven me to spend much time on this aspect of production.
I’ve found two slightly annoying aspects of the user interface. First, the dialogs for opening and saving files do not start at a directory that is useful to my working habits, and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way of setting a default location. Second, there’s’ one misleading command in the transfer of a video rendered in the editor to the movie producer, DVD Architect. The user follows along a few setup screens and arrives at the final handover screen.
Alas, the “Finish” command, instead of completing the hand-off, returns to the editor. At other points in the software, “Finish” has the conventional meaning of most Windows applications: “Please go do the rest of this task”. Using the software continues to be pleasant and has become quite efficient.

The two big and one small downside s for me for which I have subtracted one star are that the buttons on screen are just far too big, render times for final movie are unbelievably slow and titling workflow is a bit unusual. The buttons on the screen in this version of Movie Studio are designed for Touchscreen users, so they are big, clunky and use a lot of valuable screen space. Why the application doesn’t have a ‘regular’ and ‘touchscreen’ option I will never know it does have a simple and advanced interface.
As a result, commonly used buttons don’t fit along the bottom of the screen too, and appear in a ‘config’ pop-up, which is frustrating. Renders to final movie are tortuously slow, and I have accepted that if I am going use this application regularly, my renders will need to be left running overnight and sometimes much of the next day.
