Here is exactly what it is saying underneath the column of Thesaurus words: “We’re having trouble connecting to the Office Store to help you get a free or premium dictionary. Select Edit. The custom dictionary opens as a document for editing. Save the document. Open the Custom Dictionaries dialog box by following the steps above.

I shut it down until I came back from lunch and all the words I had added into the CD now showed as spelled wrong. I tried adding one again and I got the message: “Custom Dictionary is not available.
The word was not added. I checked the dictionaries setting and found 2: RoamingCustom. No one touched my computer while I was away. Nothing has been updated, changed, or added to the computer or Office. To resolve your concern, we suggest that you repair your Office Word application. You may check this link out. Is Dictionary no longer a feature of Word? The Research Pane used to show both Dictionary and Thesaurus results. Now, the Thesaurus is the only option under the Research Pane. This seems like a bug in the software. Then remove the checkbox next to the dictionary item, then check it again.
But I could not access the options listed above because the “Dictionary Language” checkbox is simply not available. I did uncheck everything I could, but doing so did not make a difference.
