As big as those books are, we know of people who have them printed. These books are that important. I am quite familiar with software – including the adobe family. I am not a super expert but I can find my way around. This book it was clearly written by a bunch of technocrats that assume you are familiar with terms after mentioning them once. Most of the illustrations are between ‘hard to understand’ and ‘useless’.

Quite a few if them are printed so small they are literally not readable. I have already given up trying to navigate my way through all the lessons because I simply cannot work it out. Generally the dryness of the overall instruction will make your head spin.

This book may teach you some basics of InDesign. But do not expect this to be a fun or joyful learning experience. Generally I find this book very frustrating. I actually, in a fit of rage, threw it out. The “exercises” are horrible. The explanations are ridiculous.

The small course I took on Udemy was times better than this blasted book. NONE of it was helpful and in a moment of frustration and stress, having a guide that provides no guidance is beyond infuriating. This book is the most comprehensive one you can probably find on the market but I wish it was less of a hands-on and served also as a resource.

There are some nuts and bolts about InDesign that I haven’t been able to find much information on. If you need a detailed tutorial, this is definitely the way to go. One person found this helpful. This book, like all Adobe tutorials, is not a straight forward approach to learning. There is no one page that lists all shortcuts or one page that lists a map of the entire programs and lists what functions do.

Instead, you need to commit to sample projects over many hours, flipping back and forth through the book, finding answers here and there until you can make an educated guess on how a function works. To be honest, I found searching a result online to be more useful. This book only really applies if its for a required course or if you want to use the samples.

Otherwise, don’t bother. I’m going to give this book 5 stars as far as content. I’ve loved the “Classroom in a Book” product for Adobe. This book came with a big dented lower right corner that affected the first 70 pages to varying degrees. I won’t return it, but hopefully, they will get this right in the future. This training workbook for Adobe InDesign has been very detailed, thorough, and easy to understand with the screenshots and instructions for tasks inside the InDesign program.

The accompanying follow-along files that you receive with the workbook are great to have some tactile practice of the many things you can do with this publishing program. I am trying to write a cookery book with quality photos and text written in Word and Adobe In Design seems to be the best way forward plus it has plug-ins for Blurb books.

It is the industry standard. I initially thought I could just look at the many tutorials on You tube and that helped to get me started, but I kept hitting brick walls on simple things like master page layouts, or finding bullets and transferring text from MS Word to In Design It helped me a lot to become a user and I have now done 10 pages in just a few days, together with various photos. I have not yet printed the book but think that I have greatly advanced in using the software.

I see it as very good reference text that works for me. Report abuse. Brilliant guide from start to finish and I fell much more qualified now using InDesign. OK can seem a bit pricey, but the book sits permanently on my desk and the index is also very easy to use for one off queries. I have tried cheaper books before but in the end will go back to this and purchase future copies. Fast delivery, great quality and will definitely buy again.

Excellent book. Definitely worth buying if you need to learn how to use indesign. The lessons really help break it down and learn practically how to use. Also great that you can download the book which has meant I don’t need to carry it around with me when I’m working on it away from home.
